Test Pattern #65: It’s Time

Today was Day #6 of the Republican House “staycation”. There were still no Democrats to be found on the floor.

It’s been one week since the first group of Republicans remained on the floor to do the people’s business. In that week 30,000 people have signed the petition to Call Back Congress, and Nancy Pelosi sold just 3,000 books.

The American people will not get relief if Congress doesn’t start talking about it. Call Speaker Pelosi’s office and ask her to Call Back Congress.

HUD Knew About Subprime Problems

For HUD to be indifferent as to whether these loans were hurting people or helping them is really an abject failure to regulate

University of Michigan law professor, Michael Barr, talks about HUD’s involvement in the mortgage crisis.

It was just irresponsible

University of Michigan law professor, Michael Barr, talks about HUD’s involvement in the mortgage crisis.

Given the very high concentration of these loans in low-income and African American neighborhoods, the growth in subprime lending and resulting very high levels of foreclosure is a real cause for concern

– A 2001, HUD agency report stated that the threat of foreclosure was a real concern, yet subprime backed securities rose tenfold by 2004.

Two Sides To Every Truth

“Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along.

We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is—the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.”

– President Bush speaks to Israel’s Knesset.

It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel’s independence to launch a false political attack

Barack Obama responds to the statement by President Bush.

President Bush’s comparison of any Democrat to Nazi appeasers is both offensive and outrageous on the face of it, especially in light of his failures in foreign policy. This is the kind of statement that has no place in any presidential address and certainly to use an important moment like the 60th anniversary celebration of Israel to make a political point seems terribly misplaced. Unfortunately, this is what we’ve come to expect from President Bush.
